We live in Gamil, Hanam, just east of Seoul, so a lot of our family meals happen close to home. This page collects the Hanam restaurants, bakeries and market spots I have reviewed on this blog, grouped by area: Gamil, Misa, Starfield Hanam and Sinjang Market. Every one of them is somewhere we have eaten and paid, most of them as a family of four with our son and daughter, and each entry links to the full review with photos, menus and prices.

Gamil and Misa are two separate neighborhoods in Hanam, Starfield Hanam is a large mall at 750 Misa-daero, and Sinjang Market is in the older part of the city, so the places are grouped by where they are. Check a map app for the ones near you.

Gamil: our own neighborhood
Most of these places are on Gamilbaekje-ro, Gamiljungang-ro and Sinusil-ro, and three of them, Hyojadong Sottukkeong, Choice and YONEZ, are in the same building complex at 80 Gamiljungang-ro.

Korean BBQ in Gamil

Four of the Gamil places are barbecue, and they are quite different. At Hyojadong Sottukkeong, black pork belly is grilled on a heavy cast-iron pot lid; the 500 g set (35,900 won) comes with steamed egg and doenjang stew, and the pork came off crisp outside and juicy inside. Jjokgalbi Gamil serves small pork back ribs finished on a charcoal grill and eaten by hand; both kids ate more than usual, and the spicy ribs were addictive. Damga Hwaro-gui is a spacious charcoal grill place where the kids enjoyed the meal, but for me it was not as good as I expected for the price. Geobugi Dongne is not our top pick for pure taste, but it is good value for a family dinner with a lot of food.
Everything else in Gamil

YONEZ is where we had our wedding anniversary dinner with the kids: everything was good, the oden hot pot was the family favorite, and the room was calm and tidy. Pocha Cheonguk was an evening out for my wife and me, and the gopdori-tang (spicy chicken stew with intestine) was the best thing we ate. Puradak Chicken was just okay for us apart from the Mamachi garlic chicken, though the room was spacious and quiet. ChaCha Bakery is a small local bakery with warm, well-filled bread, closed on Sundays. Choice was just okay for us: the belt and tablet made it easy to feed everyone, but the food was ordinary.
Misa

| Restaurant | What it is | What we had | My rating |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chamnamu Jangjak Nurungji Tongdak-gui | Roast chicken on scorched rice | Nurungji and cheese corn chicken | 4.4 / 5 |
| Park Seung-gwang Haemul Kalguksu | Clam noodle soup | Clam kalguksu, extra clams | 4.2 / 5 |
| Chaesundang (채선당) | Shabu-shabu and spring rolls | Shabu course, added hanwoo | 4.0 / 5 |
At Chamnamu Jangjak Nurungji Tongdak-gui, we waited about 30 minutes even arriving around 5 p.m.; the cheese corn chicken was the best thing we ate, there was a lot of nurungji under both chickens, and our kids loved it. Four of us paid 62,500 won. Park Seung-gwang Haemul Kalguksu was a late Sunday lunch: three bowls of clam kalguksu, extra clams and a cheese pork cutlet for the kids came to 53,000 won, and the broth and hand-cut noodles are the reasons to go. Chaesundang near Misa Regatta Park is a comfortable place for a family shabu-shabu dinner with free parking and a kids’ price, though the basic meat portion was small for us, and the hanwoo we added was the best part.

Starfield Hanam

Starfield Hanam is the big shopping mall at 750 Misa-daero. My son and I went there on a Sunday in March 2026 to buy a Nintendo game, and ate at two places on the same trip.
- Pildong Hambak (필동함박), 4.5 / 5: a hamburger steak restaurant in the Eatopia food hall on the third floor. A Classic Hambak and a Shrimp Rose Pasta came to 29,400 won, and my son loved the hambak and kept saying he wants it again.
- Okuku Bakery (오쿠쿠 베이커리), 4.3 / 5: a salt bread bakery. Five breads came to 25,700 won, and the one I would go back for is the milk cream salt bread.
Sinjang Market

Dukkeobi Tojong Sundaeguk (두꺼비토종순대국), 4.4 / 5, is a sundae soup restaurant at the edge of Sinjang Market with a cartoon toad on its sign. We stopped there as a family on the way into the market in spring 2026: two bowls of sundaeguk and one with meat only, 10,000 won each. The milky white broth was much better than we expected, and it is a good place to start or finish a market visit.
Practical notes from our visits
- Go early for Hyojadong Sottukkeong: we got a table easily at 5:30 on a weekday, but the room was full soon after six. It was closed on Tuesdays when we went.
- Nurungji chicken in Misa: the restaurant faces the park side of the building and can’t be seen from the road, according to DiningCode.
- Park Seung-gwang Kalguksu: there is a break time from 15:00 to 17:00, and the underground car park is free for 3 hours.
- Free parking: Chaesundang and Geobugi Dongne both use their building’s underground car park.
- ChaCha Bakery: closed on Sundays, and seating is limited to a bar table and two round tables.
Picking one for your meal
- Family BBQ: Hyojadong Sottukkeong or Jjokgalbi Gamil.
- A special dinner: YONEZ.
- Chicken: the nurungji chicken in Misa.
- A hot bowl of soup: clam kalguksu in Misa or sundaeguk at Sinjang Market.
- At the mall with a child: Pildong Hambak.
Prices and ratings on this page are the ones in each review, from receipts, menu boards or tablets at the time of each visit, and some will have changed. I will add new Hanam places here as I review them. For a day out with the kids rather than a meal, our family travel site, Kid-friendly Korea, covers the places we visit.
Two places we go back to with the kids are Misari Park and Choihu Camping, both written up on our family travel site, Kid-friendly Korea.
