Where We Ate in Jeju With Kids: Night Market, Galchi, Black Pork and Kimbap

In July 2026, my wife, our two kids and I spent a few days in Jeju, and this Jeju food guide collects the five places we ate at with our kids and reviewed on this blog: a night market in Jeju City, a galchi lunch in Aewol, Jeju black pork facing Seongsan Ilchulbong, a pork soup restaurant in Pyoseon and a kimbap shop in Seogwipo. They are listed in the order we ate at them, and each section links to the full review with photos, menus and prices.

First night: Dongmun Market in Jeju City

Dongmun Market (동문시장) is the big traditional market in Jeju City, and in the evening part of it becomes a night market full of food stalls. We went on Sunday, July 5, our first night in Jeju. It was packed, and we could not find anywhere to sit, so we ate standing up. We had egg-wrapped gimbap, a steak and stir-fried kimchi box and fresh tangerine juice, bought Jeju snacks such as Udo peanut sweets, and took a tray of Geobukibap rice balls back for the next morning.

Three things made it easier: most stalls show prices on signs or chalkboards, some food is packed to take away, and the stall numbers make it easy to find a stall again. For a first night on the island, it was a good choice with a lot to look at and try. Just go ready to stand.

Galchi two ways in Aewol: Jeju Gwanghae

Galchi (갈치) is hairtail, a long silver fish that Jeju is known for. On our second day, Monday, July 6, we had lunch at the Aewol branch of Jeju Gwanghae, on the second floor at 867 Aewolhaean-ro on the coast road. There was no wait, and we got the last window table, looking out on the sea.

We ordered the small Gwanghae modeum set (108,000 won), which comes with the fish both braised and grilled, plus two extra bowls of rice and two drinks, for 114,000 won in total. I mostly ate the braised galchi, my wife mostly ate the grilled fish, and our two kids were very happy with the meal. For a family of four, the small set with extra rice was plenty.

Black pork with a view: Jeonmang Heukdwaeji in Seongsan

Jeonmang Heukdwaeji is a Jeju black pork restaurant at 248 Ilchul-ro in Seongsan-eup, on the coast road with Seongsan Ilchulbong across the water. It shares a building and a map listing with a raw fish restaurant, 전망좋은횟집, so search for that name. We had lunch there on Wednesday, July 8, just after noon.

We ordered the Jeonmang Heuk Ilchulbong set for two, 550 g of four black pork cuts for 62,000 won. The kids loved the chewy pork, the four-cut set was a good way to try different parts of the pig, and the open space by the sea meant the kids could get up and move around between bites.

Pork soup in Pyoseon: Gaseureum Sikdang

Gaseureum Sikdang is a small pork restaurant at 19 Gasi-ro 565beon-gil in Gasi-ri, Pyoseon-myeon, in the southeast of Jeju, away from the main tourist streets. It serves blood sausage soup, boiled pork and spicy stir-fried pork made with Jeju pork. We had dinner there one evening during the trip.

This was the meal that did not work for us. The blood sausage soup with momjaban seaweed was not to our taste, and the kids hardly ate it, so we added duruchigi (spicy stir-fried pork) and boiled pork. Overall it was a so-so meal, and I gave it 3.5 out of 5. If you already like these dishes, the review lists what is on the wall menu.

Kimbap for the road: Dajeongine Gimbap in Seogwipo

Dajeongine Gimbap is a kimbap shop from Seogwipo. We went to its Seogwipo New Town branch at 796 Ieodo-ro around noon on Thursday, July 9, a bright café-style shop with a garden and a kiosk for ordering. We bought two Dajeongine rolls (4,500 won each) and two tuna rolls (5,500 won each) to take away, 20,000 won by the kiosk prices, and ate them in the car.

They were very good. The house Dajeongine roll was the better of the two: the thick layer of egg was very sweet, and the egg was most of why we liked it. If we go back to Jeju, we will stop here again. We wished we had bought one more.

What worked for us with kids

  • Easiest family meals: the galchi set at Gwanghae and the black pork set at Jeonmang Heukdwaeji. Our kids were happy with both meals.
  • Food on the move: Dajeongine kimbap in the car, and the take-away trays at Dongmun Market.
  • Skip if your kids are picky: the blood sausage soup at Gaseureum Sikdang. Ours hardly touched it.

Words that help on Jeju menus

  • 갈치 (galchi): hairtail. 조림 (jorim) is braised, 구이 (gui) is grilled.
  • 흑돼지 (heukdwaeji): black pork.
  • 두루치기 (duruchigi): spicy stir-fried pork.
  • 김밥 (gimbap): rice and fillings rolled in seaweed.
  • 모둠 (modeum): an assortment or mixed set.

Prices on this page are the ones in each review, from the receipt, menu boards or kiosks when we went in July 2026. I will add more Jeju places here as I review them.

Between meals we took the kids to Seongsan Ilchulbong, Aqua Planet Jeju, Soesokkak and Segial Beach. Those visits are on our family travel site, Kid-friendly Korea.
