Pocha Cheonguk (포차천국) is a chain of indoor pojangmacha, Korean drinking restaurants with a long menu of shared dishes, and its Hanam Gamil branch sits on Gamilbaekje-ro, a short walk from our apartment. My wife and I went on the evening of Children’s Day, May 5, 2026, while our kids were at their cousins’ place. We ordered the Gopdol set, which is gopdori-tang (spicy chicken stew with intestine) plus a cheese potato dish, and a pepperoni pizza, with beer and soju. The gopdori-tang was the best thing we ate.

A night out without the kids
Children’s Day is a public holiday in Korea, and that evening our son and daughter were staying at their cousins’ place. That left my wife and me free for an evening, so we walked out to the shopping street in Gamil and went into Pocha Cheonguk for a drink and something to eat.
A pojangmacha (포장마차), or pocha for short, was originally a street tent selling soju and snacks. Indoor chains like this one keep the name and the drinking-food menu but put it in a regular restaurant, with tables, a kitchen and tablet ordering. The entrance here has a gold “POCHA HEAVEN” sign over a red door with 천국으로 입장 (“enter heaven”) written on the glass, and a sign saying takeaway is available.

Inside, the lighting is dim with purple LED strips, and one wall has the brand slogan in lights: 밥도 먹고, 술도 먹고, 맛있게 취하는 천국, roughly “eat, drink and get pleasantly tipsy in heaven.” We sat at a table by the window, which looked out at the apartment towers of Gamil. Each table has a tablet on a stand for ordering.

Ordering on the tablet
Everything is ordered on the table tablet, which is in Korean. The categories down the left side are:
- 주류이벤트: drink deals
- 세트메뉴: set menus
- 신메뉴/전통주: new dishes and traditional liquor
- 대표메뉴: signature dishes
- 볶음/구이: stir-fried and grilled dishes
- 치킨/피자/전: fried chicken, pizza and savory pancakes
- 탕/후레쉬: stews and hot pots
- 간단안주: small plates and desserts
- 주류, 하이볼/칵테일소주: drinks, highballs and soju cocktails
You tap a dish, add it to the basket (장바구니) and send the order. Most items have a 메뉴설명 (menu description) button with a short note in Korean. At the bottom are 주문내역 (order history) and 계산서 (bill), which is useful for checking what you have ordered so far.

These were the prices on the tablet pages I photographed:
| Item | Korean | Price (won) |
|---|---|---|
| Gopdol set (gopdori-tang + cheese potato) | 곱돌 한상 | 45,000 |
| Chibbaeng set | 치뱅 한상 | 47,400 |
| Fried chicken | 후라이드치킨 | 16,800 |
| Sweet and spicy chicken | 양념치킨 | 17,800 |
| Hot garlic soy chicken | 핫마늘간장치킨 | 17,800 |
| Chicken with fried rice (original / sweet and spicy / hot garlic soy) | 원조치밥 / 양념치밥 / 핫마늘간장치밥 | 20,800 / 21,800 / 21,800 |
| Strawberry and cream bingsu | 생크림 딸기빙수 | 10,800 |
| Fruit and yogurt bingsu | 과일요거트빙수 | 10,800 |
| Mango bingsu | 달달망고빙수 | 9,800 |
| Any 3 bottles of soju or beer, before 7 p.m. | 삼병이(저녁7시이전) | 10,900 |
DiningCode lists a few more prices for the branch, including gopdori-tang on its own at 32,800 won, the pastry pizza (pepperoni or four cheese) at 16,800 won and a seafood pancake at 15,800 won (checked September 2026). The pizza price on the tablet was not in my photos.

The drink deals
When we went in May 2026, the drink deals page had two items. The first, 삼병이, is any three bottles of soju or beer for 10,900 won if you arrive before 7 p.m. We came in later than that, so it did not apply to us. The second is 리뷰 감튀, free fries for writing a review. The set menu page also showed a Naver receipt review event at the time: write a review of your receipt on Naver, show it to the staff, and you get a free mini portion of fries or fried squid.

Gopdori-tang, the best dish of the night
Gopdori-tang (곱도리탕) is a combination of two things. Dakdori-tang is spicy braised chicken stew with potatoes, and gop (곱) refers to intestine. DiningCode’s menu describes the branch’s version as spicy chicken stew full of daechang, large intestine. Ours came in a heavy black pan with a nest of ramen noodles on top, sliced green onion, rice cake strips, potato, chicken and pale pieces of intestine in a red broth, and it cooked on the burner at our table.

Once it was bubbling, we pushed the noodles into the broth and ate them first, then worked through the chicken and the rest of the pan. This was the dish we both liked best. The noodles take on the broth, and there was enough chicken and intestine that the pan lasted most of the evening.

The cheese potato
The second half of the Gopdol set was a round plate of potato strips baked under a thick layer of melted cheese, with grated cheese and dried herbs on top. On the tablet photo it is shown next to the stew as part of the set. We ate it between spoonfuls of the spicy stew, and the cheese pulled into long strings when we lifted it.

The pepperoni pastry pizza
We also ordered a pepperoni pizza. DiningCode lists it as a pastry pizza (페스츄리 피자), made with a pastry-style dough, and you can see that in the photos: the edge is flaky and layered rather than bready. It came as a long rectangle on a wooden board, covered in pepperoni and dusted with white powder along the edges.

Drinks
We had two bottles of Terra, a Korean lager, and soju, served in an ice bucket with glasses. Mixing the two into somaek (소맥, soju and beer) at the table is common at places like this.
Words that help with the menu
- 한상 (hansang): a spread, used here for set menus that combine a main dish and a side.
- 곱도리탕 (gopdori-tang): spicy chicken stew with intestine.
- 치밥 (chibap): short for chicken and rice; the tablet photos show fried chicken with a mound of rice on the same plate.
- 빙수 (bingsu): shaved ice dessert.
- 안주 (anju): food eaten with alcohol.
- 포장 가능 (pojang ganeung): takeaway available.
Before you go
- Hours: DiningCode lists 4 p.m. to 2 a.m., so it opens in the late afternoon. One visitor post quoted on DiningCode says it closes at 1 a.m. on Sundays, so check Naver Map before a late Sunday visit.
- Early drinks: when we went in May 2026, there was a three-bottle deal on soju and beer before 7 p.m. Check the tablet to see if it is still running.
- What to order for two: the Gopdol set was plenty for the two of us with one extra dish.
- Spice: the gopdori-tang broth is red and spicy; the cheese potato and pizza are not.
Would we go back?
Yes, for the gopdori-tang. It is the reason to order the Gopdol set, and the cheese potato and a pizza round it out for two people. It is also within walking distance for us, which makes it an easy choice for a drink in Gamil. I am giving it 4.3 out of 5.
For all our Hanam reviews grouped by area, see our Hanam restaurant guide.
More places we eat in Gamil:
- Gamil Jjokgalbi, spicy pork ribs
- Puradak Gamil, fried chicken delivery
- Damga Hwaro Grill, Korean BBQ
