Jjimagi (찌마기) is a restaurant that specializes in steamed clams and oysters, and this is its Bangi-dong branch in Songpa-gu, Seoul. My wife and I went on a Friday evening in April 2026, when the kids were away at an overnight camp with their taekwondo school, so for once it was just the two of us. After dinner we walked on to Geumbyeol Maekju in the same Bangi-dong alley for a second round. We had steamed clams for two, two bottles of soju and a haejang ramyeon, for 67,000 won. My wife loved it. For me it was bland and just okay, but it had been a long time since we’d had jogae-jjim, and I was glad we went.

The restaurant
The sign outside reads “굴찜·조개찜 전문”, a steamed oyster and steamed clam specialist, and it lists two branches in Songpa: Bangi and Munjeong. Jjimagi is a chain, and the sign also has a number for franchise inquiries. Other signs out front advertise grilled scallops, seafood, raw fish and cold raw fish soup, and there is a “take out” sign by the door. Inside, each table has a deep steel tray set into the middle for the steaming.

Steamed clams for two
Jogae-jjim (조개찜) is a big tray of shellfish steamed at the table. Our tray, the two-person size at 45,000 won, had scallops, clams, abalone, fish cakes and other shellfish on a bed of napa cabbage and bean sprouts. Once it has steamed, you pick the shellfish out of the tray with tongs.

In the middle of the tray there was a foil cup of cheese. We didn’t order it: it comes with the steamed clams, and you dip the shellfish into it once it melts.

Haejang ramyeon
We finished with a haejang ramyeon (해장라면) with abalone added, 10,000 won. It is a spicy ramyeon with shellfish in it: our bowl had mussels, clams and a whole abalone. The DiningCode listing describes it the same way, as ramyeon with a whole abalone in it.

How it was
My wife was very happy. She hadn’t had steamed clams in a long time, and she enjoyed it. I thought it was just okay. The flavor was bland, and nothing about it stood out. Still, it had been a while for me too, and an evening out with just the two of us was nice. That is why I give it 4.0. If you are planning a dinner for two, our numbers may help: the two-person tray, one haejang ramyeon and two bottles of soju came to 67,000 won.

A red banner under the menu says there is a two-hour limit per table, and asks you to place your orders 15 to 20 minutes before the end. A smaller sign says the two-hour limit applies when people are waiting. On another wall there is a framed oyster inspection notice next to a pink neon sign that jokes, “Come often, so I can pay off my loans”.

Where it is
Jjimagi’s Bangi branch is at 38 Olympic-ro 32-gil in Bangi-dong, Songpa-gu. DiningCode lists it as open from 16:30 to 01:00, so it is an evening place.

If you like steamed shellfish, the two-person tray plus a haejang ramyeon is a full dinner for two. My wife enjoyed it more than I did.
