Taeyang Gopchang (태양곱창) is a pork gopchang restaurant near Konkuk University Station in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul. A coworker and I went there after work one evening in March 2026 and had the spicy yachae gopchang, stir-fried pork intestines with vegetables and glass noodles. It was spicy, generous and had a real smoky wok flavor, and with soju it was exactly what we wanted after a long day.

Gopchang after work in Kondae
The area around Konkuk University Station, which Koreans call Kondae (건대), is full of restaurants and bars. My coworker and I had finished a long day and wanted something to eat with a drink, and Taeyang Gopchang, with its bright yellow sign, was the place we picked on the street.
Gopchang (곱창) is intestine, usually pork or beef, and in Korea it is mostly eaten as a drinking dish in the evening. Yachae gopchang (야채곱창) is the stir-fried version: pork intestines stir-fried in a big pan with vegetables, rice cake, perilla leaves and glass noodles in a spicy red sauce. It is different from grilled gopchang, where you cook plain pieces over a grill yourself. With yachae gopchang, the kitchen does the cooking and brings the whole pan to your table.
The spicy yachae gopchang
We ordered the spicy version. It came on a large tray lined with foil, piled high with gopchang, vegetables, rice cake slices and glass noodles, with a handful of shredded perilla leaves and sesame seeds on top. The portion was big for two people.

It was spicy, there was a lot of it, and it had a smoky, charred flavor that Koreans call bulmat (불맛, “fire taste”). As a drinking dish with soju it was exactly right, and we both enjoyed it a lot.

Side dishes
The table was set with a divided plate of small side dishes, a small plate of green chili and garlic, and a covered jar of seasoning powder for dipping. The raw garlic and chili are for eating with the gopchang, the way people do with most Korean grilled or stir-fried meat.

DiningCode lists the yachae gopchang as a single price, so check the menu for how many people one order is meant for.
Other dishes on the menu
We only had the yachae gopchang, but the menu is wider than that. These are the descriptions the restaurant gives on its DiningCode listing, so read them as the restaurant’s own words rather than something I checked:
- Pork gopchang hot pot (돼지곱창전골): gopchang cooked in a spicy broth at the table, in three sizes. The listing says it uses pork gopchang slaughtered the same day.
- Grilled gopchang and grilled makchang (곱창구이, 막창구이): stir-fried over high heat in a soy-based sauce, without the vegetables and noodles of yachae gopchang.
The same listing also tags the restaurant as having high chairs for small children and offering delivery.
Tips if you do not read Korean
There is a standing banner by the entrance with photos of the main dishes, which helps if you want to see what you are ordering before you sit down. The dish you want for a first visit is 야채곱창 (yachae gopchang), and you can ask for it 매운맛 (maeun-mat, spicy) or 기본맛 (gibon-mat, regular). If you are not sure about the heat, the regular version is the safer choice. The spicy one was spicy enough to notice, even for us.

A free extra for a review
A card on the table offered a small reward for writing a Naver receipt review: extra glass noodles, extra vegetables or a drink, your choice of one. You scan the QR code on the card, and the card asks you to include a photo of the main dish.

Getting there
Taeyang Gopchang is at 94 Dongil-ro 22-gil, in the restaurant streets near Konkuk University Station (Lines 2 and 7). DiningCode lists it as open from 4 p.m. to 1 a.m., so it is an evening place. I did not check whether it opens earlier for lunch. The same street has other places we like for an evening out in Kondae.
Worth it after a long day
Yes. For a spicy, filling pan of gopchang with soju after work, it was a very good meal. The heat and the smoky flavor are the reasons to come, and one pan was plenty for two. It gets 4.5 out of 5 from me.
More places we have eaten around Konkuk University:
- Guwoldong Kkachine, a pojangmacha-style pub on the same street
- 502 Jjigae Maeul, dakbokkeumtang after work near Konkuk
