Shabu 20 (샤브20) is an all-you-can-eat shabu-shabu restaurant, and the branch we went to is in Gamil-dong, Hanam, right on the edge of Seoul. The branch is called “Songpa Gamil” (송파감일점), but the address is in Hanam, Gyeonggi-do. We went for dinner on a Friday in March as a family of four, with our two kids, who are in elementary school. On top of the shabu-shabu, there was LA galbi, fried chicken and injeolmi on the buffet, and the kids loved it. It was a dinner the whole family was happy with.

How the pricing works
You pay one price per person, and the meat is unlimited. Our receipt shows the weekday dinner price for adults, 30,900 won, and 13,900 won for each of our two elementary school kids. For four of us the total was 89,600 won, paid at 7:42 p.m. On the receipt, the adult line is printed with our broth choice, “얼큰+가쓰오부시” (spicy plus katsuobushi), and the kids’ line simply says “초등학생”, elementary school student.
The DiningCode listing gives the full price list. Lunch and dinner are decided by the time you walk in. The listing mentions a 100-minute limit on weekends and holidays; it doesn’t say whether there is a limit on weekdays, so ask if you plan to stay long.
| Who / when | Price per person (won) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Adult, weekday lunch | 26,900 | entry 11:00 to 16:00 |
| Adult, weekday dinner | 30,900 | entry 16:00 to 20:50 |
| Adult, weekends and holidays | 31,900 | 100 minutes, any time of day |
| Elementary school child | 13,900 | the price on our receipt |
| Preschool child | 6,900 | from 36 months |
For a family, the children’s prices make a big difference. Two adults and two elementary school kids came to less than three adult prices.
What is included
According to the listing, these are all included in the price, with no extra charge:
- Beef and pork for the shabu-shabu, unlimited
- LA galbi (grilled marinated short ribs)
- Dakgangjeong (닭강정), crispy fried chicken in sweet sauce or soy sauce
- Wol-nam-ssam (월남쌈), rice paper rolls you make yourself, unlimited
- Draft beer, unlimited
- Coffee, drinks and ice cream to take away after the meal
The shabu-shabu
Shabu-shabu is thinly sliced meat that you swish through a pot of hot broth for a few seconds, then eat with a dipping sauce. The pot at each table is divided in two, so you pick two broths. We went with eolkeun (얼큰, spicy) on one side and katsuobushi (dried bonito) on the other. My wife and I ate from the spicy side, and the kids ate from the katsuobushi side. The meat comes on a tray in thin slices, and you add vegetables, mushrooms and noodles from the buffet into the pot.

The buffet on the side
What made this place work for us was that it is more than a shabu-shabu pot. With LA galbi, fried chicken and injeolmi on the buffet, it felt like a small buffet restaurant on top of the hot pot.

The rest of the buffet is laid out in stations: a vegetable and salad bar, a wol-nam-ssam station with sliced vegetables and rice paper, a hot food corner with trays of grilled and stir-fried dishes, and a sauce bar where you mix your own dipping sauce.

How a meal goes
This is how it went for us. You sit down, choose your two broths, and the pot goes on the burner at your table. The meat comes to the table, and everything else you pick up yourself from the buffet: vegetables and noodles for the pot, salads, rice paper rolls, and the hot dishes.
What the same dinner would cost at other times
Using the prices on the listing, here is what our family of four (two adults, two elementary school kids) would pay at each time. The kids’ price is the same at every time, so only the adult price changes.
| When | Adults (2) | Kids (2) | Total (won) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Weekday lunch | 53,800 | 27,800 | 81,600 |
| Weekday dinner (our visit) | 61,800 | 27,800 | 89,600 |
| Weekend or holiday | 63,800 | 27,800 | 91,600 |
So a weekday lunch is the cheapest way to go, and a weekend meal costs 2,000 won more than our Friday dinner.

With kids
For a family, the format is easy. Everyone picks what they want, the kids’ price is much lower than the adult price, and nobody has to agree on one dish. Our son and daughter ate galbi, chicken and injeolmi from the buffet and meat from the pot, and they said they liked it a lot. For us adults, it was a restaurant we were very happy with too.

Where it is
The restaurant is on the first floor at 25 Gamilnam-ro in Gamil-dong, Hanam. Gamil sits between Songpa-gu in Seoul and the rest of Hanam, which is why the branch has “Songpa” in its name. According to DiningCode, parking is free, and the restaurant is open from 11:00 to 21:50.
Other family dinners around Gamil and Hanam
- Damga Hwaro-gui Gamil, charcoal-grilled beef and pork
- Nurungji chicken in Hanam Misa, whole chicken on scorched rice
- Pildong Hambak at Starfield Hanam, hamburger steak in the mall food hall
We would go again. For a family with kids who all want different things, the shabu-shabu plus the buffet made it an easy dinner.
